Proudly South African

Building a stronger, greener Africa

SlagCem Africa supplies Granulated Blast-furnace Slag(GBFS) and Ground Granulated Blast‑furnace Slag (GGBS) as a supplementary cementitious material for high‑performance concrete and industrial applications.

  • GBFS will be supplied in limited volumes directly from ArcelorMittal's Vanderbijlpark's operation.

The product

Ground Granulated Blast‑furnace Slag (GGBS) is a finely ground, glassy material produced from iron‑making slag. It is commonly used alongside cement or clinker to contribute to long‑term strength and durability in well‑designed mixes.

What SlagCem Africa supplies

  • GGBS produced from blast‑furnace slag and beneficiated through a dedicated grinding operation.
  • Consistent supply focus — a single product, delivered with a technical mindset.
  • Bulk and packaged options can be supported — contact us for current availability.

Why GGBS

  • Supports performance-led mix designs where durability and later-age strength matter.
  • Can help reduce clinker demand in blends, supporting a lower-impact construction pathway.
  • Often selected for durability-focused environments when specified and proportioned correctly.

Primary applications

Where SlagCem Africa GGBS is typically specified and used.

Readymix concrete

Used as a supplementary cementitious material alongside traditional cement to support performance-led concrete production.

Mining backfill

Serves as a binding agent for backfilling, supporting void stabilisation where rapid early strength is not the primary driver.

Cement manufacturing

Used as an input material in blended cements and to support fly ash activation in certain cement classes.
